Example 1
A Midwest Stamper had to
tap (1) #10-24 hole in a stamped part with many forms. The
secondary tapping operation was expensive (.10 cents/part)
due to handling and floor space needed for staging the parts
to be put through a tapping machine. Hutchison Tool lent
our tapping expertise in incorporating an In-die tapping
head into the progressive die, thus eliminating the costly
secondary tapping operation. The customer has been
producing 700,000 parts/yr. For over 10 years. With an
annual savings of $70,000, the total savings since inception
of project has been well over $700,000!!! |

Example 2
A Chicago area machine shop
had a production job machining G10 printed circuit board
fiberglass material. Due to the abrasive nature of the
material, carbide endmills were used to try and improve tool
life. The average tool life was 7 hours and the customer
was able to produce 60 parts/week. One of Hutchison Tool’s
sales engineers worked with the customer recommending a
diamond coated carbide cutter. He also recommended
increasing tool RPM from 6,000 to 18,000. The end result
was tool life increased to 70 hours and part production
increased to 180 parts/week. Customer has now instituted an
unattended machining process which allows machine to run all
night. The total savings for this was $236,000 in its first
year. |

Example 3
A Midwest manufacturer of
cement drills had two 1/8” holes to be drilled in different
planes. Each hole was being drilled individually with a
cycle time of one minute which included loading and
unloading and refixturing of part. Hutchison Tools’s sales
engineer recommended using (2) Sugino G-Bal self feeding
drills mounted in the different planes. As a result,
customer only fixtured part once and Sugino Drilling units
cut the actual drilling time to 6 seconds vs. 1 minute.
Total savings was $9,600 in the first year with room for
substantial growth of volumes to be drilled. |
